There is also a huge difference between running and running with a ball. at the end of a 90 minute game being able to maintain your touch and control of the ball while fighting exhaustion is crucial
you cant judge the fitness of all soccer players off of running with one group of players. there are players from my team including myself who have better times than a lot of cross country and track runners. we are what you would call an elite team. some of our preseason training consisted of running running 8 miles in about 90 minutes and then scrimmaging with our older club team for another 60. you try this and then call soccer players pussies. On top of that crosscountry is not a physical sport so there is nobody is physically working against you. if the other runners were pushing you around and grabbing your shirt for 5k than you would have an arguement.
Marathon runners have better long distance endurance but soccer players are dominant in other areas. soccer is a sport that is physically demanding but also requires good players to think and react quickly.

Re: Best Running Blogs – 2011

Hey Jake, Thanks again. Please take a look at my running blog www.rite2run.wordpress.com I began the blog in April 2011, and concentrate on mostly the motivational, inspirational and longevity themes of running. I do get into some technical issues and have even done a few running book reviews. I'd love the make your list or be added to your blogroll, and am happy to return the favor.
